A Protectors of Balance game.

From a hidden command center outside space and time, you are the Operator of the Shadow Bureau — coordinating Protectors across worlds that should never meet.

They share no history, no language and no gods — only the same quiet problem. A city under a failing veil. A world that runs its sun on choir practice. Islands held up by oaths and chain. A place that keeps its memory in machines, and the machines are forgetting. A desert whose cities ride on walking machines. Nothing from one appears in another; that is the point.

Command a literal cockpit: drift between five monitors as your desk hums with holograms, and turn a humble Bureau into an agency that keeps the worlds standing.

Free, playable in your browser, no download. This is a prototype — the Bureau runs, and how far it gets built out depends on what you tell us.

The cockpit

Every screen is a system:

  • World Scanner (left) — manually gather Credits from passing signals.
  • Garde HQ (down) — hire the Garde for automatic income and upgrade your HQ and Treasury.
  • Protector Hub (right) — search for field agents, then train them.
  • Mission Control (up) — brief Protectors and send them into the field.

Assemble your team

Protectors are not from any of these universes. They are brought in from outside, most of them from our world — pulled across by the Bureau, given a call sign, and asked to understand somewhere that runs on rules nobody wrote down. Bravo — Lena, logistics planner. Echo — Dalia, musicologist.

Every Protector has all five attributes; none of them is a class. Train them up to level 20, then read the odds before you decide who goes.

The odds are the game

Every mission shows what it asks for, what it pays, and exactly why the chance is what it is. Send the wrong Protector and you will know why it went wrong.

Failures hurt: Protectors come back injured and need time to heal. Sometimes they do not come back at all — and then an extraction run is on the board, and somebody has to go and get them.

Idle at its core

The Garde keep producing while you are away. Return to a growing Treasury, complete missions, and decide when to end the shift.

Prestige and persistence

End your shift to spend Renown on permanent Bureau upgrades — efficiency modules, training simulators, Garde contracts.

Something put this Bureau in motion — a force that sees the threads between worlds more clearly than the people who live there, or even the Protectors themselves. What it truly balances, only it knows.

Manually gathered. Automatically grown. Strategically deployed. Welcome, Operator. The Bureau needs you.

Tell us where it stalls

One of four free prototypes, going up one a week. They are built to be compared — the one players want more of is the one that gets built out. What helps most: how far you got before you stopped, and whether the second shift was worth coming back for.

The comments below are the fastest way to reach us.

More Protectors of Balance prototypes

Three more go up over the next weeks, one at a time. The newsletter and Discord announce each one as it lands.

Four prototypes, one finished game. Whichever one you want more of, tell us in the comments — that is how we decide which it is.
